RAINN: 1-800-656-HOPE

"One year ago, I locked my door and went to sleep; like we all do on any given night. Unfortunately, this night was like no other before and was one I will never be able to forget. I woke up that night to a co-worker who had undressed himself, crawled into my bed and raped me. "
Kathleen, rape survivor

Join us in healing from rape, sexual abuse and sexual assault.

After Silence offers a free message board with over 20,000 members and a chat room, where survivors and victims of rape, sexual abuse, and sexual assault can connect with one another in real time.

We don't discriminate according to gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and or sexual orientation. We welcome all survivors of sexual violence with open arms.

  • We are here. You are not alone.

  • We are here to support you during difficult times.

  • We are here to provide you with useful information and resources.

After Silence is closely moderated by a group of strong and dedicated survivors of different types of sexual violence and abuse, including stranger rape, date rape, childhood sexual abuse, incest, stalking, and domestic violence. You may learn more about them here.

We have over 30 different discussion forums, ranging from topics created to discuss specific areas of recovery, such as depression, anxiety, self-injury, and eating disorders, as well as forums open to general discussions, and lighter topics. We value the privacy of our members and most of our forums are private, which means that only registered members have access to them. We also provide protected forums for male survivors and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender survivors.

How to register at After Silence

Please note that if you are a friend, family member, or loved one of a survivor, you are welcome to join our community, and we look forward to support you. However, to ensure the privacy of our members, supporters have limited access to the forums. If the survivor you are supporting is a member of our community, you will need her or his permission before joining.

Registration is simple. Follow a few steps, and you’ll be able to connect with other rape and sexual abuse survivors in no time.

  1. To begin, go to the message board and click on “Register” (top center of the board). You will now be asked to choose between two dates. Click on the link that corresponds with your birthdate. A parent or guardian must complete and mail or fax a signed permission form to the administrator of the board before a child under the age of 13 can complete the registration process.

  2. After clicking on the date, carefully read and review our terms of service. If you agree to them, click the 'I agree' checkbox and proceed to click “Register.”

  3. Now choose a username and a password. Your username can be anything you want but it must be appropriate for a message board devoted to healing from rape. You will also have to provide us with a valid email address (If you use a fake email address, you will not be able to validate your account and enter the board), and choose your gender and membership type.

  4. You are done! An email confirming your registration will be sent to you (usually immediately). You will be asked to click on the link provided in the email to validate your email address (be sure to check your spam/bulk folder as the email may be mistaken for spam by your email provider).

  5. Once your email is validated, one of the administrators will grant you access to the message board. Please allow up 24 hours for an administrator to approve your account, and do not register multiple times as this will only delay the process.

Rest assured that the procedure is very simple and fast, and yet assures a good level of privacy and safety for all of our members. Should you encounter any problems during registration, email us at aftersilence.org(@)gmail.com and we’ll be happy to assist you. Remember you are not alone!

This site is offered for support of other rape and sexual abuse survivors. It is not meant to be a substitute for any kind of professional help.
